2021 GMC Canyon
The flexibility of a midsize pickup is appealing for a number of applications, whether you want to tow and haul heavy loads, tackle rough terrain, or explore the open road. The Canyon from the GMC lineup is especially versatile, making it a top choice in the segment.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2021 GMC Canyon comes in four trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali. The AT4 is a new addition for this model year, replacing the All Terrain trim level from the previous years. You can also choose from extended-cab and crew-cab body styles and a short or long cargo bed. Exterior features on the base Elevation Standard trim include 18-inch glossy-black alloy wheels, projector-beam halogen headlights with LED signature elements, black accents, cargo area lighting, and a locking tailgate.
The Elevation trim tacks on remote locking functionality for the tailgate, a sliding rear window, an EZ-Lift and Lower tailgate, and a full-size spare wheel. With the AT4, enhancements include specialized 17-inch wheels outfitted with off-road tires, a transfer-case shield, and a unique off-road suspension. At the top of the list, the Denali trim has 20-inch wheels, a spray-in bedliner, chrome assist steps, upgraded cargo area lighting, and a spotter mirror.
Engine (Power)
The 2021 Canyon is available with three engine options. The standard unit is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 191 pound-feet of torque and 200 horsepower. It pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission. The AT4 and Denali trims come with an upgraded 3.6-liter V-6 engine, which pumps out 275 pound-feet of torque and 308 horsepower. It works with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The final engine, a 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder, is an option on any trim. It makes 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, working with the same six-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
Rear-wheel drive is standard on all trim levels except the AT4, which includes GMC's four-wheel-drive system. You can also upgrade any of the other three trims to include four-wheel drive. The gas pedal is responsive with all three of the engines, while the steering and braking feel precise. Drivers also love that this model drives more like a car than a truck, providing a more comfortable ride. The max towing capacity is 7,000 with the diesel engine and proper towing equipment.
Interior
Even the base trim level of the 2021 Canyon comes well-equipped with a power-adjustable driver's seat, cloth upholstery, a six-speaker sound system with a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, and front USB ports. The Elevation trim adds a leather-wrapped and fully adjustable steering wheel, remote entry and engine start, a security system, charging USB ports for rear passengers, and OnStar emergency telecommunications.
The AT4 trim has many of the same features as the Elevation trim, but the Denali is the most luxurious of the bunch. It boasts a larger 8-inch touch screen, integrated navigation, leather upholstery, a wireless charging pad, heated and ventilated front seats, a power passenger seat, a premium Bose audio system, and specialized trim.
Safety Features
All 2021 GMC Canyon models include anti-lock brakes, air bags throughout the cabin, traction and stability control, and a rearview camera. The top trim adds rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning, and lane departure alert.
